I created these works when I was going through a much needed, but painful break up. I had gone through an argument with a person I loved, and that was affecting me in a negative way. At the same time, I was grateful for a moment of separation in order to reset and reimagine the friendship, and that was a source of joy. This piece depicts the intersection of those sentiments into a series of monotypes. The piece is about radically reimagining the concept of love. I called it “Decolonial Slut Love” because I wanted to draw a question around the use of the word “slut.” What is the definition of a slut? Is there a magical mathematical equation that makes you a slut? And why are women’s bodies heavily policed?
